Cats are typically and naturally clean animals. They are much better at being clean about their litter habits than many other pets are. But it’s your job to make sure their boxes stay clean and your house remains sanitary.

Figure out which type of substrate is best for your cat’s litter box. Different cats have different preferences for litter substrates. For many cat owners, sand and sawdust are hard to come by, and people can spend a lot of money on this substrate, because they become wet and soiled quickly and need to be replaced. You don’t want your sawdust and diseases spread throughout the house. You’ll save a lot of money using newspaper, but it must be changed virtually after every use because of its frequency of getting stinky. Further you should probably try out a couple different kinds of litter before you settle on one in order to determine which your cats like to use best.

Make sure your litter box is the right size and in a private location, or your cat will likely have accidents around the house. Cats are finicky. They demand to have a private spot to go to the bathroom. You need to provide that for them, or they will find a more private spot. Also, make sure your litter box is big enough for the cat. If you have a large cat, make sure you have a large litter box.

Make sure your litter box is always clean. Cats don’t like the smell of a dirty box, and you don’t either. you need to make sure the pan and the box are sanitary, or they likely won’t continue to use the area.

Make sure you don’t leave any disinfectant residue. You probably don’t want to use Lysol around your cat’s litter box. If you don’t clean it all up by accident, it can be poisonous for your cat. Don’t leave any residue from disinfectant or it can harm the health of your pet.

Wash the pan every three days. If you clean your litter pan thoroughly at least every three days, that should work out well. This will keep your pets healthy and make sure your house stays clean at the same time.
